2-year Degree: Applied Animal Science: Equine Management Option

The Thompson School Equine specialization is part of the N.E. Regional Student Program for students who live in MA, ME, RI and VT

Topics covered:

  • Appropriate body language & horse handling
  • Solid background in equine science & management including anatomy, physiology & health
  • Principles and practice of equine nutrition including computer ration balancing
  • Business management theory and application

Equine classroom

Current Technology & Practical Experience:

  • Bandaging and wound care
  • Equine selection
  • Equipment fitting and care
  • Farm and barn layout analysis

Real World Experience:

  • Student organized and run Combined Tests
  • 12 week summer Work Experience
  • Supervised experience in the UNH equine stables

Thompson School students are eligible to try out for both the Intercollegiate Dressage Team (2009 National Champions) and the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Team (Regional Reserve Champions).
